#1 – The Mystery and The Spirits
Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit (Mark 1:21-26)
21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
The prophets foretold of Him.
Moses said, “The LORD your God, will raise up a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to Him. (Deuteronomy 18:15)
John the Baptist said, “After me will come ONE, more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.” (Mark 1:7)
Jesus came as the LIGHT, to a very, very dark world.
He was a teacher’s, teacher.
Was was a preacher’s, preacher.
Officers were sent to arrest Jesus. When they returned to the Pharisees, they were asked why they didn’t arrest him. Their response?, “Never a man spake like this man.” (John 7:46)
Jesus performed many miracles.
Gave sight to the blind.
Hearing to the deaf.
Speech to the mute.
The lame could walk.
He cured those with Leprosy.
He calmed the wind and the sea.
He fed 5,000 people with a few loaves of bread and fish.
He fed another 4,000 people the same way.
He raised at least 2 people from death.
John 21:25
25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
He also cast out demons and evil spirits.
Where did these demons, these evil spirits that Jesus cast out, come from?
Deuteronomy 12:29-31 (A Warning)
29 The Lord your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land, 30 and after they have been destroyed before you, be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.” 31 You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.
Deuteronomy 32:17-18 (Part of Moses’ Song When He Was Passing the Leadership Over To Joshua)
They sacrificed to false gods, which are not God—
gods they had not known, gods that recently appeared,
gods your ancestors did not fear. 18 You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth.
Psalm 106:36-37 (Similar to Deuteronomy)
36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods.
And So They Did!
But Then… Jesus Came!!!
Matthew 8: 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits.
Other Examples:
Jesus drives out the demons (legion)
The child of the mother who begged Jesus to cast the demon out of her daughter.
When Jesus came down the Mountain of Transfiguration.
Jesus gave that same gift to his disciples. When Jesus sent out the 12, when he sent out the 70.
The book of Acts records some of these.
Matthew 12:43-45
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
We Wrestle (Ephesians 6:12)
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
John 21:25
25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
You may have a couple of questions on your mind, such as…
> Do demons and evil spirits exist today, in our modern, civilized society?
> If they do exist, can they or do they possess individuals AND society, our culture?
> If the exist today, and if they do possess individuals and society, culture… HOW DO THEY DO SO?
>>>> The short answer is, yes they do exist today in our modern, civilized society. They do possess individuals AND cultures, BUT, they do it in a different way than they did it in the old testament days or during the time of Jesus.
We were a country founded on godly principles. We have abandoned our Christian heritage. Our house was swept and put in order but God doesn’t live here today. Like Israel, we’ve given way to the worship of other gods. We’ve opened ourselves up to the liar of liars, the deceiver of deceivers.
When exactly did this happen? IDK! But I do know a milestone occurred in the mid 20th century, 1962, when prayer was officially removed from our schools. ARE WE, AS A SOCIETY, BETTER BECAUSE OF IT? I think not!
Ouija Board
William Fuld and the Kennard Novelty Company
The first company to produce Ouija boards commercially. Fuld was an American inventor and businessman from Baltimore, Maryland who manufactured Ouija boards from the 1890s to the 1920s. Fuld is often called the “father of the Ouija board”.
Parker BrothersAfter the Fuld family sold Ouija to Parker Brothers in 1966, Parker Brothers produced Ouija boards alongside other popular games like Monopoly, Risk, and Clue.
Hasbro After acquiring Parker Brothers in 1991, Hasbro became the current manufacturer of Ouija boards.
William Fuld originally intended them simply as a board game. However, we know that Satan doesn’t play games.
It is not too late. We need a turning away. We need to repent. We need revival within ourselves as well as our nation.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
